Jacket takes her home, and it's implied throughout the rest of the game that she later became his girlfriend when we see the gradual changing of Jacket's apartment the most telltale of all being the two beds pushed together in Jacket's bedroom towards the end of the game. Jacket then proceeds to kill the film producer, and save the drugged up hooker whom the producer was about to rape and kill on camera. Throughout the game, Jacket is visited by three people wearing animal masks: A man with an owl mask named Rasmus who wears the same suit as the Russian mobsters Jacket kills throughout the game who is always disgusted at your presence and claims not to know you a woman in a horse mask named Don Juan who repeatedly voices concerns for the state of Jacket's psyche and finally we have Richard: a man in a rooster mask who wears the same letter man Jacket as the player and repeatedly predicts the future and forces Jacket to ask difficult questions of himself, such as "Do you really like hurting other people?" These three characters play a big role in the story which I'll get to later.Ībout halfway into the game, Jacket is on a job in which he raids a film producers villa and stumbles upon a hidden snuff film ring.
Hotline miami final boss serial#
The first Hotline Miami game centers around the previously mentioned silent protagonist Jacket who is receiving phone messages from an unknown caller threatening him into committing multiple acts of serial mass murder against Miami's Russian crime syndicates over the course of a few months. So if you're not familiar with the games story, (insert obligatory spoiler warning here) a quick refresher. Even though he's given no spoken dialogue throughout the series, he's a fully flushed out character with a lore that goes deeper than any of the other supporting characters. The characters are all very complex with distinct personalities and their own backstories, such as Evan Wright the frustrated struggling novelist in Wrong Number trying to write a novel about the masked maniac killings in the first game, and Manny Pardo the alleged Miami Mutilator: a vicious serial killer striving to achieve the same level of infamy as the Masked Maniacs in the first Hotline Miami.īut by far the most interesting character is the main protagonist in the first game, dubbed by the fans simply as Jacket after his iconic letter man jacket we see him wear throughout the first game. Though on the surface it appears to be merely a violent 80's arcade shoot em' up, when you look deeper there's actually a very deep and complex narrative to the game.
